In a media landscape often criticized for its lack of diversity, Georgia Fort is making sure Black voices aren’t just included—they’re leading.
A three-time Midwest Emmy Award-winning journalist, Fort is the founder of BLCK Press and President of the Center for Broadcast Journalism, a nonprofit aimed at revolutionizing the pipeline of media professionals.
From securing her place in history as one of only two reporters present for the sentencing of Derek Chauvin, to launching a groundbreaking news show, to acquiring a radio station to support local artists and storytellers, Fort has become a media force of nature—and she’s just getting started.

With over 15 years of experience in commercial and nonprofit media, Fort created the independently produced show “Here’s the Truth”, which earned 12 Regional Emmy nominations and won three, broadcasting for three seasons on The CW Twin Cities.
The show not only told impactful stories, but also created jobs for over a dozen media professionals—proof that equity and excellence can go hand in hand.
In 2022, Fort expanded her reach by founding the Center for Broadcast Journalism, a 501(c)(3) committed to increasing representation in Minnesota’s overwhelmingly white media landscape, where less than 3% of journalists are Black.
The nonprofit went on to acquire Power 104.7 FM, providing a community-based platform for culture, commentary, and celebration. The station now hosts an annual cultural and music festival uplifting local artists and businesses.

Fort’s work hasn’t gone unnoticed. She’s been recognized by the National Association for Women in Business, the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists, and was named to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” list. Her influence also extends to academia and thought leadership, having contributed to publications such as “Black Media in Minnesota” and “Freedom of the Press”, while penning op-eds on democracy and media representation.
With nearly a dozen scholars from her nonprofit’s programs now working as TV reporters, editors, producers, or journalism students, Fort’s mission is more than a personal brand, it’s a blueprint. A vision. A newsforce in motion.
“My mission is to change the narrative by amplifying truth, elevating diverse sources, and providing context around social justice issues,” Fort has said.
Whether behind the anchor desk, in the boardroom, or mentoring young journalists, Georgia Fort is showing the world what it means to not just report the news, but reshape who gets to tell it.
