The buzz centered around Cardi B signing a staggering $55 million deal with Louis Vuitton is a perfect example of the internet’s knack for transforming wild speculation into “facts.”

Social media exploded with excited messages of congratulations, blogs ran with the story as if it were gospel, and even fashion enthusiasts began speculating about what Cardi’s first campaign with LV might look like.

However, here’s the kicker: that deal never actually took place.

The whirlwind began in early September, when several posts surfaced on platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Threads, and Facebook, claiming that Bernard Arnault, the billionaire CEO of Louis Vuitton, had personally offered Cardi B this impressive endorsement deal. The rationale? Her “global influence,” unique style, and her coveted status as “the world’s #1 rapper.”

Sounds tempting, right? Almost too perfect to be true.

Before long, the rumor spread rapidly. Meme pages, gossip accounts, and a handful of entertainment blogs leapt on the bandwagon, declaring Cardi the “new face of Louis Vuitton.” Some even embellished the story with fabricated details, including LV-branded cars and exclusive red carpet events.

But there’s no substantial evidence backing any of it.

Let’s look at the basics. Neither Cardi B nor Louis Vuitton has made any statement regarding this deal. No announcement has been made. No social media shoutout from Cardi herself (and honestly, if she had secured a $55 million contract, you’d bet she’d be shouting it from the rooftops). Even Louis Vuitton’s press team hasn’t said a word.

As for the alleged quote from Arnault labeling Cardi as “the world’s #1 rapper”? Completely made up. The luxury mogul is known for his privacy and isn’t one to dish out compliments like that, not even when Rihanna launched Fenty under his LVMH umbrella.

To set the record straight, Cardi B does have a history with Louis Vuitton. She’s a fan, not an official brand ambassador. Ever since her rise to fame, she’s been flaunting their monogram prints in her distinctive style, including denim ensembles, bold skirts repurposed as crop tops, and eye-catching accessories.

This past June, she gained attention for posting family photos in Louis Vuitton’s cherry blossom collection, showcasing her children in matching outfits worth $15K each. It was all about luxury, but it wasn’t a sponsored gig. That was Cardi spending her own money, not a paycheck from LV.

Social media has a talent for weaving tales. Moreover, given Cardi’s tremendous success and affinity for designer goods, it was believable enough to spread quickly.

Yet, in this case, it turned out to be nothing but a viral piece of fan fiction.
