A political firestorm is intensifying in Washington after Jasmine Crockett publicly called for accountability following former Attorney General Pam Bondi’s failure to appear for a scheduled congressional deposition tied to the ongoing investigation into the Jeffrey Epstein case.

In a strongly worded social media post on April 14, Crockett accused Bondi of defying a lawful subpoena and suggested that Democrats on the House Oversight Committee are prepared to escalate the matter.

“Pam Bondi refused to show up for today’s Oversight deposition — defying our lawful subpoena… The survivors deserve justice — and we will get answers. Enough is enough,” Crockett wrote.

Bondi, who was dismissed from her role as attorney general last month, had been subpoenaed to testify before Congress regarding her handling of documents related to Epstein and his network. Lawmakers are examining whether federal authorities properly managed and disclosed key records tied to the high-profile sex trafficking investigation.

However, the Department of Justice argued that the subpoena no longer applies following Bondi’s removal from office, a position sharply contested by members of Congress from both parties.

Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the committee, reinforced that stance, asserting that Bondi remains legally obligated to testify regardless of her employment status.

Contempt of Congress Threat Looms

Crockett’s comments reflect growing momentum among Oversight Democrats to pursue contempt proceedings. Under U.S. law, contempt of Congress is a criminal misdemeanor punishable by fines of up to $100,000 and up to one year in prison.

The move would place Bondi in a category that includes former Trump allies Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro, both of whom were convicted and served prison sentences after refusing to comply with congressional subpoenas.

Republicans Push Back

Republican members of the Oversight Committee have downplayed the controversy, framing Bondi’s absence as a scheduling issue rather than defiance.

Some have accused Democrats of politicizing the matter, noting that high-profile figures, including former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, previously challenged subpoenas before ultimately cooperating with investigations.

The Epstein Files Controversy

At the heart of the dispute is the long-running controversy surrounding Epstein-related documents. Despite legislation mandating transparency, critics argue that key files may still be withheld, fueling suspicions of a broader institutional cover-up.

Lawmakers maintain that Bondi, who oversaw aspects of the Justice Department’s handling of the files, holds critical insight into decisions about what was released and what may remain hidden.

A Broader Fight for Accountability

Crockett framed the issue as part of a larger battle for justice, particularly for victims of sex trafficking linked to Epstein’s network.

Her message signals that the political and legal fight is far from over and may soon escalate into a high-stakes confrontation over congressional authority, executive power, and public transparency.
