In a critical commentary, MSNBC host Joy Reid questioned Amber Rose’s credibility following her speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC).
Amber Rose made headlines for her unexpected appearance at the RNC, where she delivered a speech that elicited mixed reactions. The model spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Monday, pledging her support for former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
Rose emphasized her role as a mother and a Trump convert during her speech.
“I’m here tonight to tell you, no matter your political background, that the best chance we have to give our babies a better life is to elect Donald Trump president of the United States,” Rose said on stage.
“I’m no politician, and I don’t wanna be, but I do care about the truth, and the truth is that the media has lied to us about Donald Trump,” the former reality TV star added. “I know this because, for a long time, I believed those lies.”
Some praised Amber Rose for entering the political arena, while others, such as Joy Reid, were far more critical.
Joy Reid was openly skeptical of Rose’s political involvement during her segment on “The ReidOut.”
“It’s ironic that they were able to recruit this young woman, who is racially ambiguous. I don’t want to say she’s black because she says she’s not. This woman, who is whatever race she is, because she says she’s not black. But they’ve brought somebody whose whole career is based in black culture,” Reid began her critique.
“She used to be on a show on BET, which is why most people know who she is. She dated one of the most prominent African-American rappers in the business in the history of hip-hop. And so her whole culture came from black culture even though she says she’s not a black person herself.”
Reid’s critique addressed the larger issue of cultural identity and representation, emphasizing the importance of authenticity in public figures claiming to speak for marginalized communities.
She continued, “And the fact that she is now the person they are using to try to recruit young people of color and say that this is the person who is the endorser of Donald Trump who you should trust when she won’t even claim the culture that brought her to the table?”
“I’m dubious that this would work. I don’t know anyone who takes their political cues from Amber Rose. But just in case you do, you might want to duplicate doing your own research because she might not have done it thoroughly,” Reid ended.
In a TikTok post last Thursday, MSNBC host Joy Reid said she would “vote for” President Biden even if he was “in a coma”.
Reid made it clear that her decision to vote for Biden over Trump is primarily motivated by the harm she believes Trump’s reelection would cause the country.
