Former First Lady Michelle Obama is set to take the stage at South by Southwest (SXSW), headlining a featured session with her brother, Craig Robinson, on March 13 at 1 p.m. CT.
SXSW is a globally recognized festival and conference that celebrates the convergence of technology, film, music, and culture. Held annually in Austin, Texas, SXSW serves as a dynamic platform for creative professionals, industry leaders, and emerging talent to share ideas, showcase innovations, and spark meaningful discussions. Known for its groundbreaking keynote speakers, exclusive film premieres, and influential music performances, SXSW has become a cultural landmark that fosters networking, creativity, and forward-thinking initiatives.
Its impact extends beyond entertainment, shaping trends in media, business, and technology while amplifying diverse voices and stories from around the world.
While SXSW 2025, which runs March 7-15, has not disclosed the session’s specific topic, anticipation is high given Obama’s impact as a best-selling author, advocate, and entrepreneur.
Hugh Forrest, SXSW president and chief programming officer, praised Obama’s influence, stating:
“Michelle Obama has long been an inspiration to us at SXSW and to millions of people around the world. Her belief that we lift each other up by sharing our stories with one another is a core part of the SXSW experience.”
Since leaving the White House, Obama has launched the Girls Opportunity Alliance, co-founded PLEZi Nutrition, and, with former President Barack Obama, established the Higher Ground production company. Her memoir, Becoming, became a global bestseller, further solidifying her role as a cultural and political leader.
Robinson, the executive director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, also co-hosts the Higher Ground podcast Ways to Win.
SXSW 2025 is expected to draw creatives, industry leaders, and changemakers, with Obama’s session likely to be a highlight of the festival.
