Brittney Marie Members is being remembered as a devoted mother whose final act was one of courage after she allegedly confronted armed men attempting to force their way into a party attended by teenagers.
According to reports, the shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. at a short-term rental property where Members’ daughter was hosting an after-prom gathering. Authorities say Members was standing at the entrance when several men wearing ski masks attempted to gain entry.
When she refused to let them inside, she was shot.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the residence and found Members suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

“It was pure pandemonium,” she said, comparing the scene to “some type of war movie.”
Mitchell later discovered a bullet hole in the front window of her residence, underscoring the danger posed to nearby families during the shooting.
