Young Woman Shot While Sleeping Next to Her Children — Boyfriend Now Charged With Her Murder

by Gee NY

More than a year after 30-year-old Porshe Streeter was fatally shot while asleep next to her three young children, Saun Rainge Jr., the father of the children, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to her death.

The deadly shooting, which occurred during an alleged home invasion on Jan. 13, 2024, initially led investigators to believe Rainge was a victim as well.

He had called 911 that morning claiming he was injured and that Streeter had been shot by an intruder who followed him into their Orlando apartment.

But after months of investigation, authorities now say Rainge orchestrated the crime that took the life of his longtime partner.

When deputies arrived on the scene that day, they found Rainge with a gunshot wound to his arm and Streeter dead in the bedroom, showing signs of mild decomposition, according to People.

Streeter’s body was discovered next to their three children, who were asleep at the time of the shooting. Rainge reportedly told responding officers that he had just spoken with her — a statement later found to be inconsistent with forensic evidence and the condition of her body.

According to investigators, blood patterns and a medical examiner’s report indicate that Streeter had been dead for at least two hours before the emergency call was made.

Witness accounts and security camera footage further discredited Rainge’s version of events. Although he claimed to be at the residence to check on family, text messages between the couple revealed that he was not supposed to be there.

Authorities also arrested Benjamin Garmon, who is alleged to have carried out the shooting under Rainge’s instructions. Garmon was identified in part through home surveillance footage and a description provided by the couple’s 10-year-old child, who was present during the tragedy.

Both Rainge and Garmon have now been charged with first-degree murder, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The case has sent shockwaves through the Orlando community and raised pressing concerns about domestic violence and the silent warning signs that often precede fatal outcomes.

Streeter, remembered by loved ones as a devoted mother and vibrant young woman, is being mourned as authorities pursue justice in what they now believe was a premeditated killing, not a random act of violence.

Streeter’s death adds to the disturbing statistics surrounding intimate partner violence and homicide, particularly among Black women in the United States. Advocates continue to push for greater awareness, support services, and prevention resources in the wake of such tragedies.

Anyone with additional information about the case is encouraged to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
