Alex Cooper, host of the Call Her Daddy podcast, is facing backlash from fans following her interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. Regular listeners, known for appreciating the podcast’s candid discussions on sexuality and women’s issues, have accused Cooper of promoting Democratic Party propaganda in the episode.

Harris, too, has been criticized for bypassing mainstream media interviews and tough questions in favor of more relaxed, softball conversations with “safe” interviewers.

Some fans took to the podcast’s Instagram account to congratulate Cooper on securing an interview with a high-profile Democratic candidate, praising the achievement on a show that ranks second in popularity behind Joe Rogan’s in the U.S. However, others expressed their disappointment, vowing to never listen again and questioning when Cooper would offer former president Donald Trump a similar platform.

The interview departed from the podcast’s usual edgy content, instead focusing on Harris’ campaign messaging and avoiding contentious subjects such as illegal immigration and the Biden administration’s handling of Hurricane Helene.

“One of my most favorite podcasts and now I’ll never listen again. Unbelievable,” one commenter posted.

“DONE, this was my fav podcast. I’m 100% disgusted,” posted another.

Others, though, sided with Cooper, stating it was a good idea to have Harris on.

“Stunning and brave,” posted one user.

“Yes she’s going to get a lot of new supporters voting for her from this!” posted another.

And then, of course, there were those who cared less about Harris being on and more about the host’s outfit of choice.

“I need that hoodie,” one user wrote, referring to Cooper’s lavender “Unwell Network” sweater.

Following the backlash, Cooper defended having Harris on her podcast.

“As you guys know, I do not usually discuss politics or have politicians on the show because I want ‘Call Her Daddy’ to be a place that everyone feels comfortable tuning in,” she said in a video posted on her social media platforms.  “But, at the end of the day, I couldn’t see a world in which one of the main conversations in this election is women and I’m not a part of it.”

She further went on to acknowledge that her audience has a diverse range of political views and emphasized that her intention in interviewing the presidential candidate was not to “change anyone’s political affiliation.”

Launched in 2018, Call Her Daddy was ranked the fourth most popular podcast in the U.S. during the second quarter of this year, according to Edison Research, with about 90 percent of its listeners being women, according to facts.net.

The podcast frequently addresses subjects like mental health, trauma, relationships, and sex, but overall, its focus is on the everyday challenges women face, according to Cooper.
