In a candid appearance on Carlos King’s show, Laura Govan finally shared her side of the story regarding her infamous altercation with Draya Michele over their mutual ties to former NBA star Gilbert Arenas.
Govan opened up about the heated incident after King asked:
“Did you see that story where [Gilbert Arenas] pretty much talked about what Draya was doing in the backseat and all that stuff? What do you have to say to that about you, Draya and the Gilbert thing?”
In her narration of events, Govan started by saying there were long-held frustrations that ultimately erupted after learning about Arenas’s secret relationship with Michele.
Govan explained that she and Michele initially bonded when Michele joined Basketball Wives, even developing a friendship before she (Govan) discovered Arenas had been financially supporting Michele with $25,000 and flying her to Los Angeles.
Govan recalled stumbling upon this information, which intensified her sense of betrayal.
“When I found out, I went to where she was filming and confronted her. I beat the sh*t out of Draya,” Govan admitted, adding that she regrets the physical altercation but felt blindsided.
Reflecting on the situation, Govan stated:
“Am I proud of those things? Absolutely not. But what you’re not gonna do is be my friend, be in my face, and then betray me like that.”
Despite her regret, Govan’s recount of the incident has sparked further dialogue on how the boundaries between friendships and relationships can be challenging to navigate in reality television.
Tumultuous Relationship
Laura Govan and Gilbert Arenas had a tumultuous on-and-off relationship, and several factors led to their eventual split. They faced numerous public disputes, often aired on social media. Their relationship was marked by allegations of infidelity, legal battles, and financial disagreements.
One of the central reasons for their split was Govan’s claims of Arenas’s infidelity, which reportedly caused significant tension between them.
Before they split up, Govan also claimed in interviews that Arenas had been unfaithful with multiple women, including rumors involving Basketball Wives cast member Draya Michele, which contributed to the friction.
Legal issues also played a role. Following their breakup, Govan filed several lawsuits against Arenas regarding child support and custody arrangements for their four children. Arenas responded with lawsuits of his own, including a defamation suit, alleging that Govan had made false claims about him.
Ultimately, the combination of infidelity allegations, public disputes, and protracted legal battles brought their relationship to a definitive end.
