Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett clapped back Sunday after Donald Trump referred to her as a “low IQ person” during an NBC Meet the Press interview.
Trump’s swipe at Rep Crockett has ignited yet another clash between the president and one of his most vocal critics on Capitol Hill.
During the Sunday broadcast, Trump took aim at the Democratic Party, saying:
“They have a new person named Crockett… She’s definitely a low IQ person. And they said she’s the future of the party.”
Crockett, who represents Texas’s 30th Congressional District, wasted no time responding via X:
“For you to be in charge of the WHOLE country, you sure do have my name in your mouth a lot. Every time you say my name, you’re reminding the world that you’re terrified of smart, bold Black women telling the truth and holding you accountable. So keep talking…”
The first-term lawmaker has frequently used her platform to challenge conservative leaders, including Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, especially over federal budget issues and the dismantling of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives under the former administration.
Crockett’s Record of Speaking Out
Since taking office in January 2023, Crockett has gained national attention for her unfiltered advocacy and viral moments on social media. In recent months, she’s:
- Publicly clashed with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) during a heated committee debate over transgender athletes in federally funded sports, where Mace told her to “take it outside.”
- Told Musk to “F*** off” in a widely circulated video in February.
- Led calls for a “Tesla Takedown” on her birthday, March 29, rallying critics of Musk’s leadership and policies.
- Made headlines for referring to Texas Governor Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels,” later clarifying that her criticism was aimed at his deportation policies, not his disability.
Crockett has also endured mockery from right-wing figures, including MAGA comedian Terrence K. Williams, who dressed in a wig and fake nails to parody her appearance.
Still, her rising profile has earned praise from high-ranking Democrats. In an April 30 speech, Vice President Kamala Harris listed Crockett among a group of leaders with “moral clarity” shaping the future of the party, alongside Senators Cory Booker, Bernie Sanders, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Online Reactions
The social media response was swift.
Former DNC member Khary Penebaker wrote,
“Trump can’t stop crowing about @RepJasmine because fearless Black women torch his paper-thin ego… We’re here, we’re loud, & we’re voting.”
Conservative commentator Tomi Lahren, on the other hand, simply responded “LOL” to the clip of Trump’s interview.
