Burger King Worker Who Went Viral For Running Store Alone Raises $26,000

A South Carolina Burger King employee is receiving national attention and tens of thousands in donations after a viral TikTok video showed her operating the entire fast food restaurant alone.

Nykia Hamilton, a 25-year-old mother of three, was captured on video preparing food, packaging orders, and serving customers all by herself after a coworker abruptly quit and no replacement was sent. With no backup, Hamilton initially ran both the dining room and the drive-thru but eventually had to shut down the drive-thru due to the overwhelming workload.

“One of my employees just quit on me, and they didn’t have anyone else to come in, so I had to work by myself and close by myself,Hamilton told WACH News. “I be missing out on my kids’ lives when I work so much… it hurts me a lot.”

The video quickly went viral, garnering widespread sympathy and sparking outrage. Many viewers commented on the emotional and physical toll of the situation, with one user writing:

Bless this beautiful queen! She deserves a raise and help! She is doing the job of at least 5–6 people.”

Hamilton’s story resonated far and wide, prompting an outpouring of financial support. To date, she has raised more than $26,000 in donations from supporters touched by her perseverance.

She credits her Burger King manager for giving her a second chance, saying, “I wouldn’t have no job because I do have a record… And by grace of God, she gave me a job.”

Despite the attention, Hamilton had to return to work alone the following day before receiving outside help. Burger King’s corporate office has since responded, confirming that it is against company policy for a restaurant to be operated by only one employee.

“At Burger King, it is our policy that all company and franchise-owned restaurants require more than one Team Member to be working per shift,” the company stated. “We are working with the Franchisee of this location to understand what happened and take any necessary action.”

Hamilton currently works two jobs to provide for her children and says the support she’s received is a blessing she never expected.
