Singer and activist Dara Starr Tucker is sounding the alarm on what she calls the “wholesale dismantling” of Black civil rights protections under the current Trump administration — and her viral video is sparking a major conversation.
Tucker, known for her powerful fusion of music, cultural commentary, and political satire, didn’t mince words in a recent Facebook video that quickly gained traction across social media. Over the course of four minutes, she delivered a sobering indictment of recent Trump-era policies and executive orders that, she says, amount to “intentional erasure” of Black progress in America.
“This isn’t politics as usual. This is erasure,” Tucker said in the video posted in March . “This is a campaign to unravel every hard-won inch of progress that our people have made.”
A Chilling Breakdown of Recent Moves
Tucker detailed several controversial developments, including:
- The dismantling of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, which she says has left no federal oversight for fair housing, voting rights, hate crime prosecution, or police misconduct investigations.
- The elimination of the Minority Business Development Agency, which in 2024 alone helped facilitate nearly \$5 billion in contracts for Black-owned businesses and supported over 35,000 entrepreneurs.
- The removal of exhibits on Black resistance at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, which she described as a direct attack on historical memory.
They Are Targeting Memory
Tucker warned that the attacks go beyond policy: they’re part of a broader strategy to control the narrative of Black struggle in the U.S.
“Control the narrative, control the future,” she said. “If you remove the stories of Black struggle and Black victory from the public square, you make it easier to justify new injustices.”
Her remarks touched on growing frustrations in Black communities about the perceived failures of both political parties, but she pushed back hard on the idea that Democrats and Republicans are interchangeable.
“There’s a difference between needing to push an administration toward justice and needing to resist an administration that is actively bulldozing every safeguard for your survival,” said Dara.
A Call to Stay Awake, Not Numb
Tucker’s plea was ultimately one of vigilance and clarity. She urged viewers to stay engaged, to challenge dangerous cynicism, and to recognize the real consequences of political decisions on Black communities:
“Fatigue is their friend. Numbness is their weapon. But we can’t afford to be numb.”
The video ends with a piercing challenge:
“Before you post ‘both parties are the same’ one more time, ask yourself—are you prepared to confront the truth of what is happening?”
