While some may disapprove of Meagan Good’s relationship with embattled actor Jonathan Majors, her close friends have respected her choice to be with the Creed III star.
An insider dished to People that Good’s budding relationship with Majors is “obviously not the best situation, but they’re letting her make her own decisions.”
“It’s been a little stunning to see her go from [ex-husband DeVon Franklin], with faith at the center of their marriage, to Jon, but also understandable why she’d go for someone who’s totally different after being with the same person for so long and not having it work out,” the source said.
The 41-year-old Los Angeles native separated from Franklin, 45 in 2021and finalized the divorce last year.
“Her divorce was very tough for her to process, and the decision to end the marriage is something both she and DeVon took very seriously,” the insider said, adding that she “has a really, really good heart.”
The source further disclosed that Good and “Jonathan are taking it slow, but it’s definitely progressing and getting more serious. She wouldn’t be out and about with him so publicly or be supporting him in his legal situation if the relationship didn’t mean something to her.”
Earlier this month, Good stood by Majors as he headed to trial following accusations he assaulted, strangled and harassed a woman in March.
On June 20, the Eve’s Bayou star was seen hand in hand with the embattled Creed III actor as they walked into court. With both parties concealing their gazes with dark sunglasses, Good wore a Burberry-colored trench while Majors donned a dark brown blazer atop a white collared shirt.
During the hearing, Major’s legal team withdrew a motion they had previously entered during a virtual hearing in May. Judge Rachel S. Pauley, who is presiding over the case, has set the next court appearance for August 3.
Majors only said good morning to the judge and acknowledged that he must appear in person at the Manhattan Criminal Court for the August hearing. He has also been ordered to adhere to the court’s full order of protection for the victim in the case.
“Within a few weeks of these false allegations, we provided the District Attorney with evidence of Mr. Majors’ innocence. Last week, we delivered additional compelling evidence to the District Attorney,” Majors’ attorney Priya Chaudhry said in a statement. “Following this, we strongly requested the District Attorney dismiss all charges against Mr. Majors immediately… While we are hopeful that the District Attorney is reviewing these materials in good faith and will do the right thing soon, to accelerate our case, we’ve requested a trial date ASAP.”
It was in May when Shine My Crown reported that Good was dating Majors, 33.
At the time of the reporting, an insider spoke to TMZ that the relationship has been over “the course of the last several weeks…Jonathan and Meagan have gotten close, and the relationship is fairly new,” adding that “it’s not like they’re hiding the fact they’re hanging out,” according to the report.
The news came months after a woman associated with Majors claimed she was domestically abused by Majors. He was formally charged with assault and harassment, according to New York police.
Following the dispute, the woman, 30, was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for minor injuries to her head and neck. Majors was taken into custody without incident.
The “victim of an altercation with a woman he knows,” Carrie Gordon, a representative for Mr. Majors, and attributed to Priya Chaudhry, wrote in a statement shortly after the incident became public. “Mr. Majors is entirely innocent and did not assault her whatsoever.”
The next day, Majors was arraigned on several misdemeanor charges including assault and aggravated harassment, according to a spokesman for the Manhattan district attorney’s office. He was granted a limited order of protection and was ordered to be released on his recognizance.
Shortly after the news broke, an Army spokeswoman said that the actor would be removed from two advertisements in which he appeared promoting the U.S. Army’s “Be All You Can Be” campaign.
Many critics deemed the California native was well on his way to becoming a Hollywood A-lister and worthy of a potential Oscar nomination. His most recent work was Creed III, which he starred in with fellow actor Michael B. Jordan.
Meanwhile, Good opened up for the first time since her husband Devon Franklin filed for divorce in December 2021.
In a recent Essence cover story, the 41-year-old actress shared that she feels like she is “in her prime” following the high-profile split and says she’s in a “unique space” to take her career to the next level.
“I can still change people’s minds about me, and I don’t look at that as a bad thing,” Good told Essence in the feature story. “I look at that as a purpose thing.”
She also revealed how “devastated” she felt after getting divorced from what she thought would be her lifelong partner. The couple went their separate ways after 10 years of marriage.
“That was rough because my biggest fear was what happened between my mom and my dad would happen to me, which is you’ve been with your husband for 10 years and you break up,” she said. “I would say, ‘I’m never getting divorced. I’m in it forever, good, bad, whatever it is, I’m never going to give up. You’re my person, I’m your person, that’s it.’”
She continued: “It took me a long time to understand that God didn’t do divorce,” she continued. “DeVon and I both have free will. So, I had to accept that God didn’t lie when he told me that was my husband. That was my husband. But he didn’t say we’d be together forever. God’s word remains true no matter what happens to you and if anything changes, it’s because sometimes life deals you cards you don’t expect or anticipate, but He’ll still bring you through it and He still has an incredible plan for your life.”
She recalls times when she would be ostracized for wearing revealing clothes – some even going as far as to judge her for wearing a Halloween costume.
“For years, I was scared to post Halloween pictures,” she recollected. “I would do it anyway because I’m never going to not do what I want to do. If I feel like it’s good between me and God then I’m going to do it regardless, but it was a lot of trauma because I was brave enough to do it anyway.”
Overall though, she said that her marriage to Franklin was a “beautiful journey” and is excited to transition into the second phase of her life.
“I think people are starting to get who I am,” she concluded. “I think for a long time they didn’t. And I had to get to a place where I stopped caring in order for me to walk into the place where people now are like, ‘No, I actually get her.’”
