Cardi B recently testified in court in the trial of Emani Ellis’ lawsuit against her. The security guard alleges the rapper assaulted her, spat on her, and even scratched her face with her nails during a confrontation outside a Beverly Hills OB-GYN office in 2018.
In court, Ellis expressed that the incident left her “deeply traumatized” and is pursuing legal action for assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. She accused Cardi not only of using racial slurs but also of leaving a scar on her face. A plastic surgeon testified that the mark on Ellis was “most likely” caused by fingernails.
However, Cardi B’s account of events was quite different. While on the stand, she firmly denied physically interacting with Ellis. “I didn’t touch her,” Cardi stated. “It was like a verbal fight, but it didn’t get physical at all.”
She described feelings of frustration and fear, explaining that in 2018, she was quietly pregnant and visiting her doctor. Cardi claimed that Ellis followed her down a corridor, apparently recording her on her phone, which made her feel her privacy was being invaded during a fragile moment.
“We’re literally screaming at each other,” Cardi told the jury, but she insisted that things never escalated to violence. Her attorney argued that Cardi was concerned about her unborn child and accused Ellis of altering her narrative to cast Cardi in a negative light.
Conversely, Ellis testified that she never followed or filmed Cardi B and only excitedly called out her name when she recognized her. She claimed that it was Cardi who reacted explosively, accusing her of attempting to leak news of her pregnancy and attacking her without justification.
The legal battle has been ongoing since Ellis first filed the lawsuit in 2020, but Cardi’s recent appearance in court is bringing renewed attention to the trial. With both parties presenting starkly different accounts of the event, the jury now faces the challenge of determining who to believe: the celebrity rapper or the security guard who asserts that a single encounter irrevocably changed her life.
