A Michigan community is mourning the tragic loss of 39-year-old Jennifer “Jamma” Harris, a devoted McDonald’s manager and mother of six, who was fatally stabbed Thursday morning during her shift at a McDonald’s in Eastpointe.
According to Michigan State Police, Harris was attacked by a co-worker following an argument that had taken place earlier in the day.
The colleague had been sent home after the dispute, but she returned shortly afterwards—reportedly wearing a mask—and stabbed Harris multiple times in front of other employees and drive-through customers.
A Shocking Act of Violence
Witnesses say the suspect left the restaurant for only five minutes before returning with a knife. A witness recalled the harrowing scene:
“She started stabbing her and I ran for help. I asked everybody like ‘help, help.’ I tried to stop her, it was no stopping her. She stabbed her everywhere.”
During the assault, a customer at the drive-through fired a warning shot into the air to stop the attack. That customer, a licensed CPL holder, then chased the suspect and held her at gunpoint until police arrived. Authorities credited his quick action with preventing the suspect from escaping.
Harris was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. The suspect, a 26-year-old woman whose name has not yet been released, is in custody.
Motive May Be Rooted in Sudden Workplace Dispute

While the exact motive is still under investigation, Harris’s oldest daughter told local news outlets that the suspect and her mother had previously been friendly. Police believe the violence stemmed from a disagreement earlier that day, though it remains unclear what triggered the argument.
One source close to the situation speculated that the suspect may have become enraged after being sent home by Harris, possibly seeing it as a disciplinary action that embarrassed or threatened her employment.
This may have led to a sudden and deadly escalation fueled by personal grievances or deeper mental health issues.
A Mother Remembered for Her Strength and Loyalty
Jennifer Harris had worked for McDonald’s for more than 15 years. Affectionately known as “Jamma,” she was widely respected by her co-workers and loved deeply by her children.
“She was just trying to provide for her kids,” a family member shared. “That’s all she ever did—work hard and love even harder.”
As a single mother of six, Harris’ life was marked by dedication and resilience. Her children, now left without their anchor, are receiving support from relatives and the surrounding community.
Franchise Owner Speaks Out
Yusef Alcodray, owner and operator of the Eastpointe McDonald’s, issued a statement following the incident:
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident, and our hearts go out to the victim’s family and loved ones. Violence of any kind is unacceptable in my restaurants. We are taking this matter extremely seriously… and are fully cooperating with law enforcement.”
The restaurant will remain closed until further notice.
Community Response and Ongoing Investigation
As Eastpointe police continue their investigation, community members are grappling with the senselessness of the crime and calling for justice in Harris’ name.
The violent nature of the stabbing—and the fact that it occurred in broad daylight at a public workplace—has renewed conversations about workplace safety and mental health support.
Local advocates have begun organizing support for Harris’ children, including a potential GoFundMe campaign.
