A beauty enthusiast from Uganda is gaining international attention after setting a new speed record for applying lipstick.

Zaina Kigenyi recently earned a title from Guinness World Records after successfully applying lipstick nine times within 60 seconds, breaking the previous record of eight.

The record-setting attempt took place in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, last April. Kigenyi’s accomplishment highlights the growing influence of beauty professionals and content creators in competitive record-setting challenges.

According to reports, the makeup artist carefully prepared for the attempt by testing different lipsticks, organizing models and practicing rapid shade changes to ensure she could complete multiple applications within the one-minute time limit.

Kigenyi said the recognition means a lot to her, particularly in an industry where digital creators and beauty professionals often seek greater acknowledgment.

“It feels meaningful as a form of recognition, especially in a space where content creators are not always fully acknowledged,” she said after the record was confirmed.

Photos shared on social media show Kigenyi proudly holding her Guinness World Records certificate while celebrating the milestone with supporters.

The achievement also helped raise the profile of her beauty brand, as fans and followers congratulated her online and praised her dedication to the craft.

Many supporters flooded social media with messages celebrating her success and the representation of Uganda on the global stage.

Other Record-Breaking Efforts in Africa

Kigenyi’s accomplishment comes as other record attempts from the region have drawn attention as well. Environmental activist Truphena Muthoni of Kenya recently gained recognition for a tree-hugging challenge aimed at promoting environmental conservation.

Muthoni hugged a tree continuously for 48 hours in Nairobi to raise awareness about the importance of trees in protecting ecosystems. The effort attracted widespread public interest and support.

Together, the achievements highlight the diverse ways individuals around the world are pursuing record-setting feats—from creative beauty challenges to environmental activism.

For Kigenyi, the moment represents both a personal victory and a milestone for the beauty industry.
