Georgia High School Senior Shatters Records with 155 College Acceptances and $6M in Scholarships

by Gee NY

Chase Matthews, a high school senior from Westlake High School in South Fulton County, Georgia, is making history with an extraordinary achievement.

She has secured acceptance letters from over 155 colleges across all 50 states. In addition to her unprecedented number of college offers, Matthews has amassed a staggering $6 million in scholarship awards, making her one of the most highly awarded high school seniors in Georgia’s history.

Among the institutions that have recognized Matthews’ academic excellence are Florida A&M University, Howard University, Ohio State University, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

With options spanning the entire country, she is carefully weighing her decision on where to enroll, though she is expected to receive a full-ride scholarship at her chosen university.

A Commitment to Excellence and Service

Matthews attributes her success to relentless dedication and support from her mentors. “Just hard work, hard work,” said her college advisor, Sean Moore, in an interview with WSB-TV Atlanta.

Westlake High interim principal Gregory Minnis also praised Matthews’ achievements, stating, “Chase exemplifies excellence.”

Beyond academics, Matthews has a clear vision for her future. She aspires to become a pharmacist and establish both mobile and brick-and-mortar pharmacies to address healthcare disparities in Black and low-income communities in Atlanta.

“It’s all for my grandparents and parents. I’ve seen their struggles with affording medicine as well as accessibility. I want to fix that problem in the Black and low-income communities in Atlanta,” Matthews explained to WSB-TV.

A Growing Trend of Academic Excellence

Matthews joins an inspiring generation of young scholars who are making headlines for their outstanding academic accomplishments.

Recently, 13-year-old Joshua Suddith made waves by gaining acceptance into Morehouse College with a 3.88 GPA.

While he has deferred his enrollment until 2026, his story, much like Matthews’, highlights the drive and determination of young Black scholars who are defying expectations and setting new standards of success.

As Matthews prepares to make her final college decision, her record-breaking journey serves as a testament to perseverance, ambition, and the power of education to transform lives.
