Kerry Washington Receives Coveted Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Kerry Washington has officially been immortalized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The “Scandal” star received the prestigious honor on December 2 at 6258 Hollywood Boulevard, cementing her legacy as one of the entertainment industry’s brightest talents.

Kerry Washington’s career has been nothing short of extraordinary. She first captured hearts with her performances in critically acclaimed films like Ray and The Last King of Scotland, where her depth and authenticity shone through. She then became a household name with her iconic role as Olivia Pope in the hit TV series Scandal, breaking barriers as one of the first Black women to lead a major network drama in decades.

Washington’s contributions extend beyond her acting. As a producer and director, she has championed stories that center on diverse voices, highlighting her commitment to representation in Hollywood. Her production company, Simpson Street, has produced groundbreaking projects such as American Son and Little Fires Everywhere, further solidifying her status as a creative force.

Kerry Washington was honored during a ceremony held after Thanksgiving, which was attended by her parents, Earl and Valarie Washington, her spouse, Nnamdi Asomugha, as well as Shonda Rhimes and Tyler Perry, who is directing Washington’s forthcoming war film, “The Six Triple Eight.” Additionally, some of the co-stars from the movie were present, including Kylie Jefferson, Milauna Jackson, and Sarah Jeffery.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE shortly after the ceremony, the 47-year-old actress shared the emotional significance of the moment, revealing it was a long-held dream of her father, Earl Washington.

“It was kind of a bucket list achievement for my dad. I think it was something my dad had always dreamed of and asked me about, and so it was really special to be able to be here today to share this moment with my parents and to have them be here with me,” she revealed.

During her speech, Washington recounted a heartfelt family tale. She remembered how her uncle, who had emigrated from Jamaica, visited Los Angeles and found a star on the Walk of Fame bearing their family name, “Moss.” Although the name was not fully visible, Washington cherished the pride and happiness her uncle experienced. This moment, she noted, highlighted the aspirations her family held for success in Hollywood.
