Laphonza Butler, former U.S. Senator for California, is embarking on a new chapter in her storied career by joining global consultancy firm Actum LLC as a partner.
Known for her political acumen and commitment to equity, Butler brings decades of experience in labor leadership, public service, and policy advocacy to the firm, which specializes in delivering strategic solutions for a diverse global clientele.
In her new role, Butler will focus on growing Actum’s client portfolio and furthering its mission to deliver transformative outcomes.
“We are thrilled to welcome Senator Butler into the partnership,” said Actum Managing Partner Fabian Núñez in a press release. “Her leadership, strategic vision, and depth of experience in navigating complex political landscapes will be a tremendous asset to our firm and our clients.”
Kirill Goncharenko, another partner at Actum, praised Butler’s ability to translate policy into progress, calling her a “game-changer.” This echoes the “Champion of Change” title awarded to Butler by President Barack Obama during his tenure.
For Butler, joining Actum represents a continuation of her lifelong mission to drive meaningful change.
“Actum’s commitment to delivering meaningful outcomes aligns perfectly with my approach to leadership,” Butler said. “I’m thrilled to work alongside this talented team to help our clients achieve their goals.”
A Trailblazing Career in Public Service
Butler’s political career skyrocketed when she was appointed to succeed the late Senator Dianne Feinstein, a trailblazing figure in her own right.
During her 14 months in Washington, Butler built key relationships and contributed to significant policy initiatives.
She has also served as a trusted advisor to high-profile leaders, including former Vice President Kamala Harris, Maryland Senator Angela Alsobrooks, and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Butler’s leadership has always been grounded in her advocacy for underserved communities. Her work has centered on representation and equity, making her a natural fit for Actum’s vision.
A Thoughtful Exit From Capitol Hill
Despite her success in Washington, Butler chose to step away, citing the importance of recognizing when it’s time to move on.
Reflecting on her predecessor, Senator Feinstein, who served until her passing at age 90, Butler told Rolling Stone: “Whose power is it? Are you running for yourself, or are you serving the power of the people who elected you?”
This perspective underscores Butler’s ethos of servant leadership and her dedication to prioritizing the needs of the people she serves over personal ambition.
A Commitment to Progress
Butler’s appointment to Actum LLC is not just a new job—it’s a continuation of her mission to address big challenges through collaboration and innovation.
Her move comes during a politically charged moment in the U.S., following the transition from the Biden-Harris administration to the Trump-Vance administration.
With her vast experience and a proven track record of transformative leadership, Butler is poised to make a lasting impact at Actum, further cementing her legacy as a champion for equity and progress.
