A 27-year-old woman in Detroit is speaking publicly after surviving a violent attack by a man she met through the dating platform operated by Facebook, warning others about the risks of online relationships.

According to prosecutors and a report by local broadcaster WXYZ‑TV, the woman, identified as Jaykayla Archie, said she was held captive, repeatedly assaulted, and forced to drive her alleged attacker around the city before she managed to escape and call emergency services.

Alleged attack after months of contact

Archie told investigators she had matched with 31-year-old Danielle Darren Sandridge Jones on Facebook Dating around the holiday season last year. After communicating for about a month, the pair began meeting in person, typically at his residence on Detroit’s west side.

During a subsequent visit last month, Archie said the encounter suddenly turned violent. Prosecutors allege Jones retrieved a knife, threatened her life, and stabbed her before forcing her to drive him to multiple locations.

Authorities say she eventually returned with him to his residence, where she found a brief opportunity to flee and contact police after several hours of captivity.

Multiple alleged victims

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said Jones has been charged with assault with intent to murder and unlawful imprisonment. Officials also allege he is connected to two additional domestic violence cases involving women he had dated.

Jones is currently being held at the Wayne County Jail pending further court proceedings.

Police noted they have not confirmed additional victims beyond those cases but encouraged anyone with information to come forward.

Mental health impact and public warning

While Archie is recovering physically, she told reporters the psychological effects remain significant. She described feeling isolated and fearful during the incident and said the trauma continues to affect her daily life.

Experts note that survivors of violent crimes often experience lasting mental health challenges, including anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and difficulty trusting others. Advocates say public awareness and survivor support are key to recovery.

Archie said she decided to share her experience to help others recognize warning signs and to reduce stigma around speaking out about abuse.

“I don’t want anyone to feel embarrassed about going through domestic violence,” she said. “It happens, and people should speak up.”

Authorities also reminded the public that support services are available for individuals in dangerous or abusive situations.
