Dr. Mati Nyazema has etched her name in history as Zimbabwe’s first Black female to own a luxury hotel, the Mbano Manor Hotel in Victoria Falls.

A Vision Rooted in Heritage
Born on a private family farm in Msengezi, Dr. Nyazema’s entrepreneurial spirit was nurtured by a lineage of hardworking grandparents.
Her early life in the Harare townships of Highfield and Harare was filled with simple joys, supported by parents who prioritized education—her father, a primary school principal, and her mother, a nurse.
Her educational journey led her to mission schools, where she served as Head Girl at St. Ignatius College, before earning four graduate qualifications, including a Ph.D. in Business and Sustainable Tourism from Stellenbosch University in Cape Town.
A Career Built on Excellence
Dr. Nyazema’s extensive career in tourism spans senior roles in destination marketing, airline and hotel management, and convention center operations across multiple African countries. Her work took her to over 60 countries, allowing her to immerse herself in global hospitality standards.
Notable career milestones include coordinating the British Airways Africa team for a 1997 global branding event held in Victoria Falls, which drew over 500 guests from 14 African nations.

Awards and Recognition
Dr. Nyazema’s achievements include being the Runner-Up for South Africa’s Businesswoman of the Year in 2011 and receiving the inaugural Tourism Inspiration Award in 2015.
A mother of four and grandmother of six, Dr. Nyazema credits her strong family ties for keeping her grounded. Her personal mantras, “This Too Shall Pass” and “He Strengthens Me,” echo her unwavering faith and determination.
