Necia Brunson, known professionally as Necia B., is using her voice to inspire healing and resilience nationwide.
The 31-year-old mental health advocate and published author has turned a painful past into a mission of empowerment, proving that survival can lead to transformation.
A Philadelphia native, Necia B. grew up facing severe challenges, including depression, trauma, and suicidal thoughts. Raised in a household of eight children, she endured physical and sexual abuse, abandonment, and toxic relationships.
“I was crying out for help, looking for love in the wrong places, and losing myself in the process,” she recalls.
Her struggles reached a breaking point with multiple suicide and homicide attempts that resulted in hospitalization.
“It got so dark I even started questioning God,” she said. “But after spending 24 hours in a mental hospital, I knew I had to fight for my life. I wanted a second chance to rediscover who I really was.”
Determined to reclaim her life, Necia channeled her passion into education and community service. A graduate of John Bartram High School, she discovered early talents in drama and leadership.
She landed a breakthrough entertainment role in 2014 as a dancer in Bria Marie’s “Celebrate” music video and later appeared in the film Fatally Flawless alongside Philly rapper PnB Rock. However, by 2015, she stepped away from the spotlight to focus on her mental well-being.
During her journey to healing, she partnered with the Young Chances Foundation to support homeless individuals and families. She furthered her education at the University of Phoenix, earning a bachelor’s degree in business marketing in 2017 with a 3.28 GPA and receiving national leadership recognition.
Necia B. went on to launch From the Heart Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to community outreach, and This N That Enterprise, a fashion brand. In 2023, she published The Ride of My Life, a deeply personal poetry book that chronicles her traumatic experiences and ongoing journey to self-discovery.
“I’m still healing, growing, learning, and maturing,” Necia shares. “But I survived the storm. And now, I’m ready to share my pain, my truth, and my testimony.”

Today, Necia B. is a powerful speaker with RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) and continues her advocacy through writing, community work, and public speaking engagements. She is proof that pain is real, but so is hope.
Her book The Ride of My Life is available on Amazon and through Black Gold Publishing.
